Third parties introduce many deficiencies exploited by attackers
According to Trustwave's 2010 Global Security Report, the most notable trend of 2009 was the continued existence of attack vectors despite the security industry’s awareness of the associated vulnerabilities for a decade or more. Organizations large and small were found to be moving forward with plans to implement new technology, while leaving basic security threats overlooked in legacy environments and IT systems.
The report analyzes data gathered from nearly 1900 penetration tests and more than 200 security incident and compromise investigations throughout 2009 and provides a business and technical impact analysis. The report was compiled by SpiderLabs, the advanced security team at Trustwave responsible for incident response and forensics, penetration testing, application security and security research.
A recent article in USA Today agrees with these findings, stating, “The vast majority of organizations routinely fail to take simple defensive measures, such as shoring up comm... [ more ]
Shipments of wireless M2M modules for security applications in Europe expected to grow to 22 million by 2014
Vehicle tracking and recovery is a major application area for wireless M2M communication in the security industry. Devices combining GPS and GSM/GPRS technologies enable monitoring services for any mobile object. Passenger cars and commercial vehicles constitute the main target markets by virtue of numbers and individual value, but there are also many niche markets such as construction equipment as well as leisure vehicles and boats.
According to a new research report from Berg Insight, shipments of wireless M2M modules for security applications in Europe will grow from 2.3 million in 2009 to nearly 22 million by 2014. At the same time, the number of alarm systems and tracking devices monitored from an alarm receiving centre or similar will grow from about 10 million in 2009 to 34 million by the end of 2014.
Today, clients are frequently advised to install security systems that take advantage of wireless communication and satellite positioning when applying for an insurance poli... [ more ]
